The plot of the play Dharmanati, moves around the lives of a king who is impotent and a queen who is still a virgin. The play opens with a symbolic Sufi Whirling depicting the cosmic connection of every soul. As the play unfolds, the King & the Queen are seen living in happy times. After spending five years in marriage, now they are facing the questions of a child, the heir of the vast Malla kingdom. Since the king is impotent, the queen is now forced to spend one night with a man of her choice and conceive. After a lot of argument with the king and her own morals, the Queen finally chooses the man with whom she spends her first night. The king on the other hand is furious and broken with the queen’s decision to follow the rules. The queen now plays an active role where she finds herself with a long awaited answers. The play hints at female sexuality and nuptial bonds that cage a woman ignoring her individuality. The play has an open ending. The loud emotional outrages of the king and the fecundity of the queen enchant the theatre and spell bound the audience. The other characters are very potential and fluid.
This play is jointly directed by Aasif Kshathriya & Shwetha Shrinivas. And the music and songs are beautifully composed by 'Bhinnashadja'.

The present script is slightly modified, with the written permission from the playwright Dr. Siddhalinga Pattanashetty, keeping the storyline and the original script intact.
